She & Him

Finally got around to downloading the “She & Him” debut album “Volume One” and I don’t know what took me so long. I love Zooey Deschanel anyway (the saving grace of both “The Happening” and “Yes Man”) and heard about the band last year, but anyway, better late than never.

So she is Zooey Deschanel, part-time film star, part-time musician (did you know she plays the banjo??) and he is M. Ward, a full-on musician who continues to release solo albums. The album is like nothing I’ve heard recently, a little bit country and a little bit alternative. And Zooey’s voice sounds like it’s from the 70s (in a good way). But it works.

Favourite track right now is “Why Do You Let Me Stay Here?” ↓↓

And for something completely different, have a listen to the tracks Zooey recorded with electro girl group “Von Iva” under the title “Munchausen by Proxy” for the film “Yes Man“. I feel like I shouldn’t like them but they are brilliant. Any song with the line “Not your late night booty call” has my attention. ↓↓

Agree with you about Yes Man but like soz, we absolutely love Zooey for her roles in Elf and Failure to Launch (minor but lol)

The Happening – shod and even her role was shod.

Yeah no I DID love her in Elf but have yet to see Failure to Launch. Please remedy this.

The Happening had a lot of promise, good opening, til it sort of clicked that, yes, it was in fact the PLANTS killing everyone.
