I see signs now all the time May 31, 2009

Bloc Party’s latest album “Intimacy” wasn’t exactly a critical smash but there are some great tracks on there. “Talons” is classic Bloc Party and not at all bad, “Mercury” is a bit of a strange drum and bass-y one that’s not very Bloc Party but is actually very good.

The highlight of the album, however, is undoubtedly “Signs” (download). A twinkly and haunting track that stands apart from everything else on the album (no guitar, no drums), “Signs” is a lovely little song and the lyrics are brilliant, if quite depressing.

Armand van Helden had the task of remixing “Signs” for “Intimacy Remixed” – a track-by-track remix album (as the name suggests) of “Intimacy”. The results are surprisingly great, and it was released as a single last month. This version is totally different, very energetic and deserves heavy club play. (download)

Oh, and the video (below) – the source of that interesting image above – is somewhere between terrifying and artsy. Think Aphex Twin.
