Sharing different heartbeats June 8, 2009

A student at NYU is working on a device that will sync your MP3 player up with your heartbeat. You basically wear a sensor which communicates to your iPod (or other MP3 player, presumably) your current heart rate and serves up some songs which are tempo-appropriate. The device is named ‘kokoro’, which is nowhere near as good as the name I would have given it: HeartBeatz (the z is optional).

It’s a cool idea, I suppose, but I don’t see myself going out to buy one any time soon. What will it do to someone who has a heart murmur? Or an irregular heartbeat? They could actually be the most interesting song selections…
